Power In Your Spirit

These day s we are surrounded by lots of electronic devices which have their place, but are they the cause of many Christians being more “in the mind” than in the Spirit on the Lord’s day – or any other day? John Alley explores the whole subject of the soul and the spirit of man, explaining that while God has breathed His spirit into man, our spirit is dead in sin until such time as we become born again of the Spirit. When we fail to grow and become strong in the Spirit, says John, our spirit is weak and may be bound, preventing us from fully walking with God.

Finding Christ Finding Rest

We read in many places in the Bible about “rest”, or “Sabbath rest”. But what do these terms really mean, and how do we attain rest? John Alley begins this message with Isaiah 58:13-14, which speaks of the importance of not breaking the Sabbath. John goes on to explain that in Old Testament times keeping the Sabbath was a sign of the Covenant. Under the New Covenant, however, even though we are not saved by keeping the Law, nevertheless the principles set out in the Old Covenant are valuable to us.

The Sabbath as a Shadow of Christ

In this message John Alley continues the topic he took up exploring Sabbath Rest for God's people. Is the Sabbath a literal day in the week, a Saturday. Or is it a spiritual sabbath rest, a concept of faith and trust. John Alley takes this topic deeper and reveals the thinking of the early church regarding the Lord's day.

Hunger For God

David Alley begins his message by reading a passage from the Song of Solomon which speaks of new life and new beginnings and then asks, “Are we hungry for God or has our Christianity become dull and repetitive?” When a person is hungry for something, says David, then they take a keen interest in that particular thing. And yet, we too easily become satisfied with out walk with God and fail to seek more of Him.

The Choice: God's Kingdom or Man's

John Alley commences his message with a reading from 1 Corinthians 20-26, which speaks of Christ as the firstfruits of all who have “fallen asleep’, or died. This passage states that death is the last enemy to be destroyed, which implies that there are other enemies that will be destroyed first. The passage also speaks of Jesus destroying all dominion, authority and power.

Changing Seasons

On this first day of Spring, John Alley speaks of the growing number of God’s people who are sensing God saying that the Winter season of the Church is over, and Spring has begun. John explains from Scripture that just as it is God who orders and arranges the physical seasons of the year, so He also changes the spiritual seasons of our lives – individually, as families, and as the people of God. John encourages his listeners not to look back but to look forward to what God is planning to do in this new season. It is a time, says john, to be praying about the future of the church.

What Must I Do To Be Saved

David Hood begins this message with a reading from Acts 16, where the question is asked, “What must I do to be saved?” The reply, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved……” raises the question of what it really means to believe. David takes the listener on a journey commencing with the understanding, as in John 1:1, that Jesus is the Word, the logos of God. Drawing on the articles of faith as examples of the real impact this should have on our lives, David explores Scriptures in the books of Romans, Luke and John as well as many other references.

Never Give Up On The Goal In Mind

Philip Alley brings a message of encouragement to persevere in doing what we believe that God has called us to. Philip speaks of several reasons why people give up, giving Bible examples of those who persevered and eventually saw the outcome that God had promised. These include the passing of time without visible result, with a great example being the perseverance of Joseph. Joseph waited many years and endured many things but did not give up on the calling of God.

Unwavering Confession

John Alley begins this message with the interpretation of a dream in which he found a tool abandoned by workers. John presents 2 Cor 6:7, which speaks of the believer having weapons in the right hand and the left, and explains that the tool is akin to a weapon, one that the people of God have neglected for some time. This tool is the power of a strong, constant, day and night, devil-be-damned confession of the Word of God that brooks no other opinion as it applies to a given situation.

Costly Grace

On the final day of the financial year John Alley challenged the people of God to undertake a spiritual stocktake, each one to search their own hearts to ensure that they have not only believed the message of salvation through the cross of Christ, but have indeed received the grace from Christ that is the power to live a holy life. It cost Jesus everything, says John, to make such grace available to us, and it costs us everything to receive that grace.
