In this video listen to Exodus 12 read by David Alley, followed by comments and prayer.
In Exodus 12 we have one of the most remarkable chapters in the Bible. The longest in Exodus, to make up for the previous extra short chapter. (Thanks to Stephen Langton)
Here are see the institution of the Passover, the sacrificial lamb for sin, the hyssop, and the idea of leven. All of these are symbols speaking of salvation, of Christ, and in the case of the leven, of sin and tainting. We see all of these things reappear as ideas now through the Bible and into the New Testament. For example Jesus says in Matt 16:6 to “beware the leven of the Pharisees.” These symbols have their beginning here.
And Jesus’ last supper was on the night (that is the beginning of the day) of Passover. God’s plan perfectly worked with the symbols he established to teach us about himself. When we look back in scripture and see the lamb here… we are seeing Christ.
The Passover is a symbol of salvation… those “under the blood” were spared, and in Christ, if we are under his blood we also are spared. This chapter also markes the end of the 430 year period that Israel had been in Egypt, although not the entire 430 years was in Egypt, but certainly the beginning, majority of the middle and the end.
