This is part of a video series covering the entire Bible in 4 years, one chapter at a time. Start at the beginning with Genesis 1 (Youtube link: https://youtu.be/wC2qD4RGOdo) and work through the playlist. Or go to https://www.peace.org.au/bible.html for more information.
In this video listen to Numbers 9 read by David Alley, followed by comments and prayer.
In Numbers 9 some people missed being able to celebrate the passover because they had touched a dead body and were ceremonially unclean. Moses sought the Lord and they were required to celebrate a week later.
This demonstrated the importance of making it a priority. This also meant that people would not deliberately touch a dead body so as to miss out on having to celebrate Passover.
We see parallels to church attendance:
People who don’t want to go, doing things to have an excuse not to go
We should be making attendance a priority.
The Church is also God’s people, so we make them a priority.
There is much to say about this.
Later in the chapter we see God’s leading of the Israelites by a pillar of cloud and fire. This was a very obvious and tangible way that God used to lead his people. God starts with tangible to explain non tangible, and this happening from the Old Testament informs us about the nature of our life and faith now. Each of us is to be led, but as a group we are also to be led of the Lord. But how?
We need to discern God’s will and Romans 12:2 speaks to that.
We also need to abound in God’s love and Philippians 1:10 speaks to that.
Love and truth as described above and both representative of Christ, who like the pillar of cloud and fire guides us today.
