Healing 2

In this message John Alley continues the theme on healing. Here he considers why healing sometimes fails to occur. Most people assume that lack of faith is the reason, but as John explains it is far more complicated than that, and in fact there are many possible reasons.

What Must I Do To Be Saved

David Hood begins this message with a reading from Acts 16, where the question is asked, “What must I do to be saved?” The reply, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved……” raises the question of what it really means to believe. David takes the listener on a journey commencing with the understanding, as in John 1:1, that Jesus is the Word, the logos of God. Drawing on the articles of faith as examples of the real impact this should have on our lives, David explores Scriptures in the books of Romans, Luke and John as well as many other references. David points out that being Christians, we are meant to represent Christ, bringing life and hope while speaking the Word in love – but since Jesus did not come to judge or condemn (John 3:17) neither should we judge or condemn others. Jesus instructs us to love one another just as He has loved us, but in our own strength we cannot successfully do this. We are meant to humble ourselves and ask for his help and his grace to live as his representatives in the earth. David draws his message to a conclusion with the challenging thought that denial of the Word of God is denial of Christ, just as the Word without love, compassion and grace is not the Word of God.

In View of the Cross: No Ordinary Salvation

Many messages have been delivered on the subject of what we are saved from when we believe in Christ and live for Him. In this message John Alley speaks of what we are saved to. John uses many Scripture verses to give a comprehensive outline of the purpose of God in first creating man, and then making the way for man to be saved and to live in relationship with Him. John speaks of God’s plan for the angels that He created and then moves on to explain the kind of relationship that we, the believers, are meant to have with God. The purpose of the cross, says john, was not only to provide the price of redemption, but also to provide the sacrifice that would strip Satan and his servants of all their weapons and their power. This message will inspire the listener to walk with God in such a way as to be very certain of the wonderful salvation that He has provided for us.

He Saves His People

There are passages of Scripture that are frequently read around Christmas – we all know them well. In this message John Alley takes two of these popular texts and teaches from the Word that we each must come to the place in our lives where we know for sure, but the witness of the Holy Spirit, that we have been saved from our sins. John points out the danger of taking to heart only parts of texts such as Luke 2:14 without properly absorbing the fact that the peace promised is for all men “on whom his favour rests”. This message, while emphasizing the wonder of the birth of Christ, also causes the listener to soberly consider the state of their own soul. Sunday 18th, December 2011

The Salvation of the Jews

In this message John Alley gives a clear outline of the issue of the salvation of the Jews as proven in the gospel. While warning against the practice of Judaising the clear gospel message and adopting Jewish traditions in the flawed understanding that this will bring us closer to God, John explains that while God does not have favourites, the Jews nonetheless hold a very particular place in the outworking of history. This message, rich with scripture references, is concluded with an exhortation to pray for the salvation of the Jewish people.
