Power In Your Spirit

These day s we are surrounded by lots of electronic devices which have their place, but are they the cause of many Christians being more “in the mind” than in the Spirit on the Lord’s day – or any other day? John Alley explores the whole subject of the soul and the spirit of man, explaining that while God has breathed His spirit into man, our spirit is dead in sin until such time as we become born again of the Spirit. When we fail to grow and become strong in the Spirit, says John, our spirit is weak and may be bound, preventing us from fully walking with God. Every Christian needs to be strong in spirit – not in an aggressive, willful way, but with a calm and quiet heart. John teaches from the Scriptures, taking passages from the books of Ephesians, Revelation, John, Philippians, Galatians, Hebrews and 1 Corinthians, exhorting the people to worship God in spirit and in truth, putting no confidence in the flesh – we worship by the impulse of the Spirit. John also teaches regarding the dividing of soul and spirit by the word of God as well as the value of praying and singing in tongues as a means of strengthening the spirit within. John closes this excellent message with a reminder that every time we pray we should by faith step into the realm of the Spirit and find God by surrender.

Hunger For God

David Alley begins his message by reading a passage from the Song of Solomon which speaks of new life and new beginnings and then asks, “Are we hungry for God or has our Christianity become dull and repetitive?” When a person is hungry for something, says David, then they take a keen interest in that particular thing. And yet, we too easily become satisfied with out walk with God and fail to seek more of Him. And yet there is always more of the infinite God – more than we can ever realise. So if we are not hungering and seeking for more of God, how do we become hungry? David goes on to speak of prayer and fasting as valuable ways to draw nearer to God and to obtain more of that which He longs to give.

Trust God And Pray

David Alley brings the first part of today’s message, sharing both his most recent mission trip to Africa and a message focusing on trusting the all-powerful God in every situation. We cannot trust ourselves, says David, we must trust in God. And we must pray! David cites several instances where people in various parts of Africa faced dire situations and, as well as taking the necessary practical steps, pressed in with prayer – and saw results. David Hood follows with an exhortation to the people to recognize that we live in a spiritual atmosphere and are impacted by an unseen spirit realm. David encourages the listener to refresh themselves to pray and to engage the enemy of our souls with spiritual warfare.

Can I Pray For You?

Tony Ponicke begins his message with his personal testimony of being filled with the Holy Spirit – the difference between being a born-again believer and being a born-again believer who is full of the Holy Spirit and walking in the power of the Spirit. Tony testifies that once he was filled with the Holy Spirit, the word of God opened up to him in a new way so that passages previously read suddenly had a new and deeper meaning. Tony speaks of the importance of prayer – of spending time with the one we love (Jesus) and thus becoming tuned to His thoughts and intentions. Tony goes on to encourage and exhort the listener to be emboldened to offer to pray for those we meet who are in need – believers and non-believers alike. We are meant to show Jesus to the world around us, says Tony, and one very practical way for that to happen is through Christians caring enough to offer prayer.

How's Your Preparation?

Two things we can be sure of, says David Hood, are - that God has a good plan for our lives, and that the enemy of our souls will do everything he can to oppose that plan. God does not want us to remain the same, and will actively work to change us into the image of Christ. David uses the story of Joseph, who endured many trials and yet cam through them with a heart that was true to God. In every situation, says David, we need to have an attitude that will allow God to work with us. Just as the prophet Isaiah spoke of the potter and the clay, we belong to the Lord, and He will bring us right back to the beginning and start again if he needs to. We are all walking the same path and are meant to encourage one other. With many Scripture reference, David encourages the listener that, no matter where we are up to with our preparation, we should get focussed and get in line with the word of God.

Prayers For Us All

John Alley begins his message today with a recap of the previous week’s teaching regarding the keys to successful prayer. These include discovering and deciding what is the will of God, setting the heart to believe that the requests we make of God will be answered, and then confessing aloud the word, promise or truth of God about the given situation. John goes on to read the passage in Philippians 1:9-11, which he has titled “Prayers for us all”. This, says John, is the kind of prayer that we should be praying for ourselves, our families and the church – that we might grow and abound in love and knowledge and depth of insight. John also reminds the listener of Daniel, who the Bible tells us prayed 3 times a day – evening and morning and noon. And Daniel was greatly esteemed by God. This, says John, is a model for prayer that we need to emulate in order to see great breakthroughs. Sunday 14th July 2013
