Dispensationalism - the Heresy that Caused the Current Cultural Defeat of the Western Church

The last hundred years, says John Alley, have seen the spiritual demise of the nations that constitute the West. These nations were formerly based in Christianity but in more recent times have become culturally polluted and corrupted. The remaining nations of the world, on the other hand, have seen a burgeoning growth of Christianity. John links the current condition of the West to the rise of the doctrine of dispensationalist. With the growth in popularity of this doctrine a large percentage of Christians changed what they believed and chose instead a very pessimistic view regarding end times and the ultimate outcome for the Church. A a result, says John, the Western Church has become emasculated, materialistic and increasingly self-centred. John goes on to explain the nature of the true Israel, the law and the consequences of wrong beliefs. This message will provoke serious thinking on the part of the listeners as well as hope for the future.

Daniel's 70 Sevens

John Alley’s message begins with an overview of Daniel Chapter 9, before focusing on verse 24 in particular. John observes that many people, preoccupied with their own view of end times, have unfortunately imported difficulty into these verses that was not intended by the Lord when speaking with the prophet Daniel. It was given to Daniel, the angel said, so that he would "understand." John points out several items of great interest, including the amazing prophecies regarding Cyrus recorded centuries before he came to power as the world ruler and issued the decree to rebuild Jerusalem - which decree was the starting point for the 70 heptads (70 “sevens”), a period of 490 years. At the end of 69 Heptads the Messiah was to appear to Israel, and in the middle of the 70th, he was to be "cut off." These events did fulfil exactly, and in the precise timeframe foretold, the six things prophesied in verse 24 of Daniel 9. John presents both New and Old Testament Scripture to demonstrate that all of these things as described by the angel to Daniel have an accurate gospel fulfilment, and all in the precise time frame of the prophecy. John points out the judgements in the prophecy that were to come, and did come, upon Israel, who rejected and put to death their Messiah. One of these was the sealing up of vision and prophecy (as foretold by other prophets as well) so that from that time, no one in Judaism had any further access to seeing or hearing (for only in Christ is the veil taken away), but at the same time the Body of Christ became the newly anointed Most Holy Place (the temple of God), the anointing of which took place at Pentecost - again, precisely, in the middle of the 70th Heptad. John concludes with this devotional application: We believers in our Lord Jesus cannot take God, nor the grace we have, for granted. We must be humble before God, so that we will not by default suffer the same judgement as in this passage, but rather by the grace of God have ears that hear and eyes that see. This message is filled with Scriptural and historical truths and will bring light to the passage discussed.

While Ever the Earth Endures 1 - Debunking Blood Moon Myths

In this message John Alley addresses the subject of a popular book by author John Hagee, “Four Blood Moons”. Having read the book and considered the content, John concludes that there are historical, doctrinal, factual and scientific errors throughout. There have been many “theories” relating to blood moons, or eclipses, over the years, says John, however in this case the various arguments brought forth are quite inaccurate. The theory that the world will change at the next blood moon is contrived, and is not borne out by history, having no basis in fact. John brings forward a total of 12 points, all refuting the content of this book with scientific and historical fact. John warns that those who preach and teach must face a more stringent judgement, as they are responsible for the things that they cause others to believe. This message is very interesting and thought-provoking, as well as carrying reassurance regarding the longevity of planet Earth. John concludes his message with a veritable tour of Scripture as it relates to the order that God has put in place for the eventual “end of the age” – not to be confused with the end of the world. This message will be continued in following weeks, and is a rich source of knowledge as to the proper interpretation of Scripture as it pertains to these matters.

Taking The Long View

Many believers grew up with the teaching that the world was almost at an end, says John Alley. Thus it was that the vision we have had for the nations has been limited. And yet, even while the church held this view, the kingdom of God was all the while advancing in the nations. With the passing of the early apostles, says John, there began a decline in the doctrine of the church. Some have taught that following the restoration of the five-fold ministry the return of Christ would be imminent. However, this is not accurate, for apostles (and the apostolic nature of the church) are being restored not as the end in itself, but for the purposes of God through the gospel in the earth. Ultimately, it has always been about discipling the nations, and there is a great history yet to be written, with many, many biblical prophecies concerning the gospel and the Kingdom of Christ in the nations yet to be fulfilled. In any case, whilst there has been some progress in the restoration of apostles to the church, we have not yet seen the restoration of apostolic authority, only the wider acceptance of the idea of having apostles. According to Ephesians 4, it is clear that Christ remains in His ascended rule at the Father's right hand and continues to appoint apostles etc “until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the full measure of the fullness of Christ." In other words, there is much to be done. John appealed for the opening up of our minds to see that everywhere the whole weight of scripture had in view a very long history for mankind, the earth, salvation, and the glory of the Messiah in the nations. John concludes his message with the thought that while the world is not about to end, for each of us individually life can be uncertain – we are each to live daily ready to meet God, while at the same time planning to live a long, fruitful life and working for the extension of God’s kingdom in the earth.

Matt 24: Jesus Answers two Questions

Once again speaking on the subject of eschatology, John Alley begins this message with a brief outline of the life of Rev Richard Johnson, who arrived on the First Fleet 226 years ago. Rev Johnson achieved remarkable things, says John, as did his contemporaries Wilberforce and Newton. So what did these men have in common that resulted in the great works that they achieved? Clearly, all 3 believed in our wonderful Saviour, but in addition these men did NOT believe that the world was almost at an end, and therefore whole-heartedly poured out their lives in service to Christ. John, examining the Passage from Matthew 24 and 25, outlines 13 differences in the 2 parts of this passage, each of which answers one of the two questions posed to Jesus in Matthew 24:3. This verse is often interpreted as being one question, but a closer examination clearly proves that there were actually 2 questions, and therefore 2 answers. The first question and answer have already been fulfilled, but the second is still in the future. We should not, therefore, become complacent but should work for the Kingdom of God.

Revelation and the Beast

Once again John Alley brings a message about “end times”, beginning with an examination of the meaning of the “coming” of Christ and then giving an overview of the book of Revelation. Revelation, John explains, is the most Jewish of all the books of the New Testament, drawing greatly on Jewish symbols, history, concepts and nuances of language. The book was written to the seven churches of Asia, at a time when there was a larger percentage of Jewish Christians in the Asian region, and there was a huge emphasis on Emperor worship. John examines events from history which all point to the book of Revelation being written in about 64 or 65 AD. With this understanding, then, it is very easy to see that most of the prophecy of the book of Revelation has been fulfilled in the great tribulation and suffering inflicted on the Church by the Emperor Nero. Therefore, the Beast referred to in the book would seem to most likely have been Nero himself. John explains many fascinating facts including the source of the number 666 and then goes on to say that as for the future, we have hope, a great calling, a great many promises and a Messiah King ruling in Heaven. We should be encouraged, says John, that although difficult times will come for some people, the Gospel triumphs over them all and we need to pour ourselves out in service to God for the furtherance of the Kingdom.
