Dispensationalism

A Throne Established In Love

Isaiah prophesied (Isa 16:4-5) of the coming Christ, that one from the line of David would in love establish a throne from which he would forever rule and reign. John Alley unpacks this Scripture passage, emphasising the themes of love, faithfulness and righteousness as he takes the listener on a tour of several supporting Scripture verses from the writings of Paul to the Romans, and from the gospels of Matthew and Mark. Touching on the subject of the heretical teaching of Dispensationalism that began from the 1830s, which gave the opinion that the world was almost at an end and the Church would not prevail in the world with the gospel, John speaks of St Patrick who had not heard such nonsense and therefore his faith was unencumbered by such unbelief. Patrick won Ireland to Christ, and Ireland then, in turn, re-educated a Europe which had been ravaged by the Barbarians. And when God creates anything, says John, He creates in huge numbers. God promised Abraham that his descendants would be greater in number than the grains of sand on the seashore. Therefore, we should expect that the spiritual descendants of Abraham – all those who come to Christ and find the faith of Abraham – would be innumerable. Please, leave room in your heart, says John, for God to do a big work with the gospel in this world.

Dispensationalism - the Heresy that Caused the Current Cultural Defeat of the Western Church

The last hundred years, says John Alley, have seen the spiritual demise of the nations that constitute the West. These nations were formerly based in Christianity but in more recent times have become culturally polluted and corrupted. The remaining nations of the world, on the other hand, have seen a burgeoning growth of Christianity. John links the current condition of the West to the rise of the doctrine of dispensationalist. With the growth in popularity of this doctrine a large percentage of Christians changed what they believed and chose instead a very pessimistic view regarding end times and the ultimate outcome for the Church. A a result, says John, the Western Church has become emasculated, materialistic and increasingly self-centred. John goes on to explain the nature of the true Israel, the law and the consequences of wrong beliefs. This message will provoke serious thinking on the part of the listeners as well as hope for the future.

The Coming Of The Light

Historically, in the Church there has been 3 ways of interpreting Scripture regarding last days events, says John Alley as he commences this message. Describing the different attributes of the Pre-millennium, Post millennium and Amillennium opinions, John states that since the future is still in the future, no one knows how events will unfold. It is fine, says John, to lean towards one theory or another, but we must not become so rigid in our opinions that we deny truth. John goes on the explain a fourth view that held popular sway in America for some time, Dispensationalism. This teaches, amongst other things, that Israel will be reestablished, the Temple rebuilt and the Levitical priesthood restored. This is an affront to the blood of Christ and an offence to the cross, says John. Jesus did a complete work on the cross, and to suggest that the old system of sacrifices that His death and resurrection did away with must be restored is foolishness. John explores Matthew 24 in part, promising to return to the subject on future Sundays.
