Of Ants and Men and God

David Alley begins his message by affirming that God came to earth and lived as a man in order to show us His great love for us. Just as in order to communicate to an ant we would need to become an ant, so it was with God, says David. In desiring to communicate with man God became a man and lived among us. Not only did He come, but in advance of His coming, God launched an extensive publicity campaign to let us know of it. First God sent the Old Testament prophets, and then at the birth of Jesus there was great fanfare, with angels and trumpets, the star that appeared in the sky and the visit of the 3 kings. And still today, says David, God’s “publicity campaign” continues. Every year we witness music and movies that reflect the advent of Christ. And yet, many people still are oblivious to the reality of the advent of Christ. David produces scripture verses to describe the purpose of the coming of Christ and its effect on our lives while describing how the enemy blinds men to the reality of Christ before encouraging the listener to “evangelize by stealth”, to seek Christ and to give God a gift this Christmas.

He Walked in Our Shoes

We have all heard the saying that before we judge someone, we should "walk a mile in their shoes". Philip Alley's message today centres on the incarnation of Christ, when God Himself came in human form and walked "in our shoes". Philip brings forth many Scripture verses that prove that Christ, while fully human, was at the same time fully divine. While Jesus was fully human, He was not merely human. Both the human nature and the divine nature existed in harmony - there was no division in Christ, but perfect unity. Philip goes on to illustrate from Scripture that the incarnation of Christ is strongly linked with the atonement for our sins. Hebrews 4 tells us that we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our human condition, but one who has gone before us and has shown the way to make Godly choices. So how are we to live in the light of the incarnation? Philip encourages the listener with Galatians 6:2, which exhorts the believer to carry one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. Philip adds the thought that just as Christ came in a human body, the Church embodies the Holy Spirit so that the world can see Christ.
