During our New Years Even prayer meeting in 2017 we had discussed between us some of the difficulties and hardships of 2017. The Lord was with us, but it had been hard work. Many of us felt that the year behind contained many lessons and much learning for us, and that along with that season, that a new period lay ahead. Not just in that prayer meeting, but ever since, there is real sense of hope and optimism for 2018. The word that best describes what we believe and feel is 'opportunity.'

Nothing good happens unless God does it. In the words of the Psalmist, “unless the Lord builds the house, the workers, labor in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)

As humans we are unable to bring the type of change about which God desires. We cannot even change our own husbands or wives, as many try to do. In fact, we struggle to change ourselves, and even our own best effort seems to be constantly fruitless. Even in human areas, things not to do with Christ or the Kingdom, we struggle to effect any type of meaningful change.

Prayer is a most powerful force for change, and through prayer we advance the Kingdom of Christ and see greater works done, that we are called to do. Christ calls us all to prayer, and the scriptures say that God is “looking for someone who would stand in the gap.” He seeks intercessors, and may He find one in you.

However when we ask repeatedly for the same thing, always beleiving that it has not been granted, somehow a lack of faith applies to keep a situation from changing.

We have all heard many sermons on this passage of scripture

"Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." John 14:12-14.
