02 Jun The Significance of the Rainbow
Rainbows give a good feeling. Everyone loves rainbows. My favourite was when flying to Africa, looking out the window below the plane, I saw a fully circular rainbow from above. Never seen anything like it before or since.
The rainbow first appears in scripture in the Genesis flood story with Noah. After the flood, the Lord makes a covenant with Noah, and with all humanity. He will never again flood the world and he gives the rainbow as a sign of his word. In other words, God signs a contract with the rainbow.
When we see a rainbow it is a reminder that God always keeps his word. He is faithful to what he promises. The rainbow is a reminder of the goodness of God.
No wonder we feel good when we see one.
