The Biggest Impact on Creation

The Biggest Impact on Creation

Genesis 3 describes ‘the Fall,’ and event so cataclysmic on creation that the atomic bomb of Hiroshima pales into comparison.  In one moment a bomb about ten feet long, called ‘little boy’ detonated and destroyed 13 square kilometres of city, and countless lives with it.  The impact was instant, obvious and will never be forgotten.

When Adam sinned, the impact of his choice was also instant, and obvious and unforgettable, but in no way to be compared to Hiroshima, not because we minimise what happened in Japan, but because the fall was so much bigger.

What may seem to some like a harmless sin, the eating of a piece of fruit, introduced into the cosmos, something which affected not just the spirit of the sinner, but the creation itself.

Paul writes in Romans 8:20-22.  ‘For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.  We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.’

Sin by its very nature is not harmless.  If it only impacted the sinner, that would be bad enough.  But sin harms creation, and harms not just the sinner, but others as well.  Adam’s sin impacted the lives of every single human being who would ever live, plus animals, plants, and more.  Every animal that has been born into this broken world, and died from disease, malnutrition, has suffered because of Adam’s sin.

The world is our home, it is normal to us, but this world is not the way it was created.  We live in a frustrated creation, one that groans out waiting for redemption.

The good news is that Christ has redeemed us, and that righteous living has a reverse impact.  It is time for the saints to live righteously and walk with Him.  Hiroshima ultimately recovered, and in the same way, but even more so, all of creation will also be recreated.  What joy awaits!!!
