Don’t Bankrupt Your Faith

Don’t Bankrupt Your Faith

It was Benjamin Boyd who purchased 600 acres of prime land from the government of New South Wales in the 1800’s, and then proceeded without council permission to build a lighthouse. He assumed that his plans would be approved of, because he was after all, doing something good.

But the government of New South Wales had other plans, including for a lighthouse a little further south at Green Cape in what was probably the better place for a lighthouse.

When the government heard he was building a lighthouse, they denied permission, but not before he had spent a fortune on construction. Ultimately he was bankrupted.

Sadly, many people also proceed in life with their own plans. They have what may even seem like good and helpful ideas, but often don’t check to obtain the Lord’s approval. The result for some is incredible shock on that final day at not only finding out the Lord wasn’t in it, but that they may even have bankrupted their faith.

The lesson from Benjamin Boyd is to seek the Lord’s approval. We want to know His will for our lives, and follow His leading. Then, our eternal surprise is the reward that we receive.
