27 Oct Which God Do You Worship?
In Abraham’s day everyone loved idols. In fact it seemed to be the way of the whole world. No matter what age of history, archaeologists are always digging up idols.
Idols in the Palaeolithic era.
Idols in the Neolithic era.
Idols in the Chalcolithic era.
Idols in the Bronze age.
Idols in the various Iron ages.
Idols in the Hittite Empire
Idols in the Egyptian Dynasties.
And so it goes. Idols in Assyria, in Babylonia, in Persia, in Greece, in Rome. Even the Jews were encouraged by the Lord to give up idols, but they struggled to do so.
Can we say it is a human problem?
And that is where we modern humans think… ‘Oh not us… we don’t worship idols, right?’
But can we think again? What about success, power, money, fame, a stock portfolio, the opinions of others, beauty, clothing, reputation, entertainment, sport, political advancement, cosmetics, health, going to the gym, and even the environment. All of these are things that people love and that take the place of God in our hearts.
Idols today might not be represented by a statue, unless you are in India, but the same lure and pull for various things exists, that has always existed for people of all time.
Like Abraham of old, will you turn your back on idols and love the one true God who made the Heavens and the Earth.
